Pregnancy Yoga Classes 

The Om Moms proudly offers pregnancy  yoga classes both in person (for those pregnant yogis in Dubai) and online with our yoga and wellness pack to be practiced anywhere, anytime. Om Moms prenatal yoga is for ALL trimesters as all postures are safe for you and your growing bump. Join in trimester one if you are already physically active and for all moms it is safe up until birth. All bump sizes and yogi abilities welcome! 

Pregnancy is a busy time I mean your just rocking around doing your usual stuff like work, seeing friends, doing family stuff and your growing a tiny human being. Well done Mom! So don’t beat yourself up if your tired no wonder but one thing I will say is don’t use that tiredness as an excuse to do nothing. Yes nap but make the most of awake time, be proactive and be active. Did you know that yoga can actually relive tiredness as it increase the hormone cortisol. Low levels of cortisol can zap your energy leaving you feeling more Netflix and ice cream rather than going for a jog but enjoying a regular yoga or Pilates practice will help you maintain healthy cortisol levels.

Yoga is not just about pulling shapes on a mat (and less shapes the more pregnant your become!) but it is about the breath and the mind too. Two very important things when it comes to happy healthy birthing. Focused breathing with long slow exhalations calms the nervous system which helps the body trigger comforting hormones including oxytocin which is essential in childbirth to progress. So voila you have answered your own question in how can I birth easily and less painfully. Breathe. But focused controlled breathing takes practice so start early and practice daily in pregnancy. This is non negotiable.
And the mind well when the mind is relaxed and this can be done by listening to calming positive audios it sends signals to the body and the body relaxes too releasing tension (and trust me a tense body is not one that happily gives birth) Where the mind leads the body follows.

My pregnancy yoga is offered privately both 1:1 or if you and your pregnant friends want to yoga together then a small group. These can be offered in my venue or I can come to you.

I also offer twice monthly Pregnancy Yoga & Brunch Events midweek and weekends too. These are an opportunity to learn Hypnobirthing breathing skills, relaxation with pregnancy meditations, practice prenatal yoga and to brunch with your new mom friends.  Guest speakers join us at these events so you really get to learn and immerse yourself in all things pregnancy.

Pregnancy Yoga FAQs

 

What is Prenatal yoga?

Pregnancy yoga is a yoga style that looks at the female changing body and how to safely move it in this time. It is a style of yoga that works on building strength and stamina whilst helping the mom to be get flexible and understand how to move the body comfortably. It also looks at the mind and how to release everyday stress and labour fear. It is also an educational class looking at birth preparation from breathing to movement and positioning for birth.

 

Can pregnant women do yoga?

Yes! Of course and what a great time to start if your new as the class is slower paced so easier to follow and for experienced yogis it shows them how to slow down to nurture their growing body. Classes are designed for all pregnant women preferably staring in their second trimester if new to yoga and moms to be can even yoga themselves into labour!

 

Which yoga is best during pregnancy?

A prenatal class only as the postures and sequencing of moves are designed for a prenatal women. Prenatal yoga is safe and avoids twisting of the abdomen putting weight on the front of the body, and is safe on back bends. In a regular class this may not be offered and many moves a prenatal lady will not be able to do.

 

When should prenatal yoga start?

If you have exorcised and practiced yoga prior to becoming pregnant and are comfortable to do so (in between nausea, morning sickness and so on) you can lightly stretch and move in the first trimester. Everyone can practice in their second and third trimester and even up until birth as it is good to keep the body moving. For third trimester moms adaptions will be made to accommodate your bump and energy levels.

 

What are the benefits of Prenatal yoga?

The list is endless but to name a few increased flexibility and fitness and building on strength and stamina and that’s also strengthening the muscles needed for birth. Also through use of meditation and guided relaxations the mind rests and starts to release fears which in turn helps better sleep. And finally the body feels good through movement and understanding of how the body works and what it’s going through at this time.

 

What is different about Pregnancy yoga?

The postures are designed for the pregnant body so movement is more deliberate and slower but more effective. The class talks more about birth to give you an understanding of the process and how you can help enhance your own birth journey. It a full birth preparation class with a deeper emphasis on breathing, movement and relaxation.

 

What yoga poses should I avoid when pregnant?

Any closed twists, stay off your stomach and your back and no deep back bends. In class you will be safely guided in and in and out of postures.

 

Where Can I Get the Prenatal yoga classes near me?

The Om Moms offers classes privately and in small groups around Dubai. There are also yoga day retreats in the cooler months where we take our yoga away from it all and outdoors. And if you prefer to yoga at home there are online packs to purchase and yoga anywhere anytime. Emotional balance versus physical balance. Why are my emotions so up and down and why do I feel like I’m all over the place (physically and mentally!)

Help your posture and balance in this class whilst connecting with the mind and the body. Here we also practice breathing for birth itself preparing you mentally which in turn relaxes the body. The Big day itself. What can we prepare in advance to be ready physically and mentally?
